Deadstock Collection
Limited edition line of best-selling bags crafted from leftover (R)evolution™ fabric
Includes duffle bag, backpack, tote bag, mini backpack and fanny pack
After researching United By Blue’s mission to reduce ocean trash and landfill waste, I discovered their Deadstock collection, which repurposes leftover fabric. Noticing the lack of a sling option in this collection, I proposed adding one to align with their sustainability goals and appeal to city commuters.
First Ideation
After meeting with United by Blue, I explored green initiatives like local gear swaps, urban renovations, and using ocean-cleanup materials for products, aligning with their mission but finding large-scale efforts less feasible. Focusing on products, I noticed their best-selling bags lacked a sling option found in competitor brands. I designed a sling bag with features like a bike lock pocket and a clip for carrying grocery bags.
Users
We targeted young urban commuters—bikers, pedestrians, and public transit users—seeking eco-friendly solutions in city living. Recognizing the challenges of balancing sustainability in urban life, I designed a bag with features to make it easier, like integrated reusable grocery bags that are always ready to use, whether biking, walking, or taking the subway.
Initial Ideation
The final design features three external straps, a reversible and adjustable shoulder strap with a full-length zippered pocket, a spacious main compartment with room for a tablet, and dedicated loops for attaching reusable grocery bags.
Two scenarios to display the bag’s best features
A city commuter detaches the reusable grocery bag to carry items while running errands.
A cyclist secures their bike with ease, using the convenient bike lock strap pocket for quick access.
